Prominent Left-Wing Pundit Admits Optimism After Trump Win: MAGA ‘Not My Mortal Enemy’

Cenk Uygur, a contributor to the left-wing party The Young Turks and a longtime anti-Trumper, admitted that President-elect Donald Trump’s victory earlier this month gives him “optimism.”

A Uyghur who regularly insulted Trump for years progressive online talk showposted to him X account on Friday that he had accepted Trump’s victory because it meant the “establishment” had been defeated.

“I’ve been trying to understand why I’m more optimistic now than before the election, even though I was very against the guy who won. Now I know. MAGA is not my mortal enemy (and neither is the extreme left),” he wrote.

The point is a remarkable turnaround for the progressive leader, who just weeks before the election called Trump an “unstable lunatic” during an episode of “Piers Morgan Uncensored.”

Uygur trotted out various anti-Trump talking points during the British journalist’s popular web show. “He thinks we should do away with our constitution. He had no problem trampling on our democracy. I’m not letting that clown come in here and destroy this country,” he told Morgan and his group of guests.

But on Friday, Uighurs seemed pleased that not only the “establishment candidate” but the mainstream media had been beaten. suffered a heavy blow as well as

In a subsequent X post, he added: “It’s not just that the establishment candidate lost, it’s that their media is mortally wounded. The source of their power wasn’t vapid politicians like Mitch McConnell and Joe Biden. The source of their power was their propaganda machine – mainstream media.”

He went on to say that the independent media is now freer after Trump’s victory.

“Now the online media is strong enough that their oppressive monopoly on the American mind has been broken. Now we’re in the jungle. They hate it! I love it! This uncontrolled marketplace of ideas is where I’m at home. I’d rather be in the populist forest than in prison .

There are various commentators and the Trump campaign itself independent media credited for the victory of the president-elect on election day. Before the vote, then-candidate Trump chose to appear on popular podcasts and interviews with top influencers, including Joe Rogan, The Nelk Boys and more.

Trump’s penchant for podcasts this election cycle, as opposed to traditional media interviews, paid dividends among Gen Z males and millennials. A Fox News poll released earlier this month found that 53% of men aged 18-44 support Trump, compared to 45% for Vice President Kamal Harris.

Former Young Turks graduate Jimmy Dore wasn’t sure about his former colleague’s new stance, publishing on X“Cenk is a bogus and willing propagandist who is a cancer on political discourse in America.”

Uighur made headlines earlier this month for calling out presidential historian Alan Lichtman on Morgan’s talk show for misplacing his 2024 election forecast with his famous “Key to the White House” forecasting model.

Historian had foreseen that Harris will win.

“You see, I debated Professor Lichtman before. I told him his theories about the keys were absurd. I was right. He was wrong. I said he would lose the keys,” Uygur told the panel about Lichtman, who was also in attendance. .

Lichtman shot back, “No, you weren’t right, and I wasn’t!” — Lichtman interrupted. “And it’s a cheap shot. And I won’t stand for it.”
