More than 122 million people are forced to move around the world, the refugee agency says – national

The UN Refugee Agency says the number of people forcibly moved by violence and persecution worldwide have risen to more than 122 million, which is about two million from the last year and near the last decade.

UnhCR The main Filippo Grandi pointed out some of the “rays of hope” in the last six months, including the return of nearly two million Syrians to their country as their country is trying to recover from more than a decade of Civil War.

The results come as the Refugee Agency released its global trend report on Thursday, saying that the number of people driven abroad or moved to their homeland increased with war, violence and persecution from April to 122.1 million, compared to 120 million years ago.

Among them, the number of internally displaced people increased by more than nine percent to 73.5 million at the end of last year. These figures reflect cumulative figures from the years of conflict, violence and persecution, and some moved people returned home last year, even when others fled.

The report comes at a time when humanitarian aid groups face budget cuts from the United States and other traditional Western donors.

UNHCR said nearly two -thirds of people crossing national borders to flee in neighboring countries, fighting “widespread perceptions in the wealthiest regions”, most of whom flee to reach places such as Europe or the United States.

The agency said Sudan, which has been driven by the Civil War, has become the largest crisis in the world, and more than 14 million people have been relocated with conflict – exceeding Syria – 13.5 million. More than 10 million in Afghanistan have been forcibly moved and about 8.8 million in Ukraine, said UNHCR.
