Trump picks Peter Navarro as chief trade adviser

The president-elect Donald Trump announced Wednesday that Peter Navarro will serve as “senior adviser on trade and manufacturing issues” for the next White House term.

Navarro, 75, will be tasked with helping “successfully advance and inform Trump’s manufacturing, tariff and trade programs,” Trump wrote in the pair Truth Social news revealing the choice.

Navarro previously served as Trump’s top trade aide during his first term.

The selection came less than five months after Navarro release from prison.

He served about four months in a federal prison in Miami for defying a congressional subpoena from the House Select Committee investigating the January 6, 2021 Capitol riots. He was convicted on two counts contempt for Congress.

Hours after his release on July 17, Navarro spoke Republican National Convention.

Trump said in Wednesday’s tweets that Navarro was treated horribly by the “Deep State or whatever you want to call it.”

Trump also praised Navarro as a “tough” defender of “my two sacred rules, Buy American, Hire American.”
