From eyewitnesses and videos to the actual wrecks, they probably probed Air India’s crashed 171 crashes on Thursday, trying to get a “full image”, says airplane emergency investigation experts, although it may take time to have some reason.
This investigation is already underway, and investigators have collected one of the black boxes of the airplane, the flight data recorder – as the search crashes, which killed at least 241 on board, searching for more victims.
One man in the plane survived the crash.
“I think it’s just like any investigation … You start with the easiest, most obvious studio and then excavate,” said Nigel Waterhouse, an expert on aeronautical engineering aircraft certification.
“They will try to get the full picture.”
Waterhouse said the first thing investigators would do is to interview witnesses “as soon as possible”.
They will try to get information like the engine came from smoke or heard loud noises, and asked if the plane was climbing, diving or other “obvious things that people would notice”.
Airplanes and airport videos will also be viewed as it could give you an insight into what’s happening at the time.
Anthony Brickhouse, a US -based cosmic aviation security consultant, said on Thursday, Global News said the investigation aims to answer three questions.
“What happened, why this happened, and most importantly – what can be done to prevent it,” he said.
Investigators will also look at the circumstances of take -off, including the airport and the weather to have the potential impact.

Although the interviews play a key role, the airplane and black box test – the flight data recorder and the cabin voice recorder – will be “very important” to determine the causes.
According to Brickhouse, the data recorder can provide information on the operation of the aircraft. The voice recorder records voice and sounds, and can not only take communication between the pilot and the pilot, including the signs of stress in their voices.
OrSo the cabin voice recorder will record the voice and sounds, and then we have a so -called digital flight data recorder who has the ability to record well over 1,000 different parameters, ”said Brickhouse.
“So anything you would like to know about the operation of this aircraft, it will probably be in the flight recorder.”
The data and voice recorder also works in the partnership, says Waterhouse, as investigators can listen to the pilot and co -pilot that passes through the collection checklist, and then refer to each other on what the data recorder shows that the control devices are set.
He added that checking the remains of the aircraft will also help the probe, the wrecks are taken away and analyzed to determine what is happening during the impact.
“So data recorders will give you indications of where to start looking, and then they will check with the actual wrecks and whatever they can see from aircraft systems,” Waterhouse added.
How long to answer?
Even with all the data done and interviews, it is difficult to say exactly how soon the cause of the emergency will be available.
If the flight was just one issue, the information could be known within two to three days, but the delay could arise if the process is not so clear.
The United States also participates in the investigation with the National Transport Safety Board, the Federal Aviation Administration, Boeing and General Electric.
Waterhouse said if data recorders need to be sent to the US for further testing, this could lead to a delay in logistics. Discussions between India and the US bodies could also be supplemented by results.
Damage to black boxes could also cause the difficulties of the investigation, although he noted that the devices are designed to withstand quite significant effects, so the data is unlikely to be lost.
While the data could be known in a short time, the discovery process could complement the time, as discussions may be needed for things like commitments and guilt, causing legal conversations.
Brickhouse told Global News that the work done should help determine what caused the crash, which in turn could help prevent accidents’ future events.
“I am convinced that the second they are facing something that could have caused the accident, the world will know about it and will make appropriate changes,” he said.
