Bolssonaro denies involvement in a possible coup on land


Former Brazilian President Jer Bolsonaro has denied his involvement in a possible land to overthrow the country’s current President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Speaking for the first time in court, Bolsonaro, who ruled the country between 2019 and 2022, said the coup was a “controversial thing” and “never even the possibility of a coup.”

The prosecutor’s office stated that Bolsonaro’s demands for voter fraud began as early as 2021 as a pretext to be used to question a possible defeat in 2022 elections.

In response, Bolsonaro said he was not the only person who did not trust electronic voter machines and said he had acted in the Constitution’s rules.

“Many times I raised, I swear. But I think I did what I had to do,” he told the court on Tuesday.

Bolsonaro is the sixth defendant who has been in a position since the start of the trial in May.

Eight defendants are accused of five charges of attempts to take a coup, involvement in an armed criminal organization, attempt to abolish the law of violent democratic power, exacerbated damage and deterioration of the inheritance listed.

Most have so far denied charges against them.

Bolsonaro, former army captain and fan of US President Donald Trump, led Brazil from January 2019 to December 2022.

He lost narrowly in the presidential election departure in October 2022 for his left rival Lula.
