  • In Israel, rescue workers searched for surviving debris from the previous night’s Iranian strike wave. The heaviest hit area was Bat Yam city, where dozens of buildings were damaged.

  • At least 13 people have been killed since Thursday’s conflict and 380 were injured in Israel.
  • The Israeli Civil Aviation Authority has announced a complete closure of airspace and airports. The Iranian air space is also closed.

Diplomacy

  • Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran is not trying to expand the conflict to neighboring countries unless forced.
  • Araghchi also said Iran had “convincing evidence” of the United States’s support for Israel’s attacks.
  • Iran’s highest diplomat later said: “We will prepare the foundation for returning diplomacy and negotiations if Israel’s aggression stops. We hope tomorrow’s IAE leaders’ meeting will condemn aggression against our nuclear weapons.”
  • Speaking to Fox News, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu seems to be clearly confirmed, saying he had informed US President Donald Trump before the attacks started.
  • Netanyahu also predicted that the result of Israel’s attacks could be a change of regime in Iran.
  • Trump warned Tehran not to expand his revenge by including US targets, and did not rule out a more direct US participation outside the broad arsenal and intelligence provided by the US to Israel.
  • On the contrary, the US president also stated that peace could be achieved “soon”, which suggests that many diplomatic meetings were taking place.
  • He also said he would be “open” to his Russian colleague President Vladimir Putin, who will serve as an intermediary.
  • French President Emmanuel Macron criticized this idea, saying that it would not be a good idea if Putin was surrounded by his war in Ukraine as a mediator in the Israeli and Iranian conflict.
  • The European Union’s foreign policy manager Kaja Kallas has called the EU Foreign Minister’s video conference on Tuesday to discuss the Middle East crisis.
  • The hope of a diplomatic solution yet seems far, although they will no doubt be on the agenda of the seven summit, which begins on Monday in Canada.
