Dangerous California man in custody for murder escapes custody, manhunt underway

A dangerous criminal in custody for murder fled California Under the auspices of the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) on Monday.

Cesar Hernandez, 34, was taken to the courthouse near 10th Avenue and Kensington Street when he jumped out of the transport van.

He was sentenced to 25 years in prison with the possibility of parole for first-degree murder, a second-strike felony, CDCR said in a statement.

Delano Police Department is assisting with other law enforcement agencies in the search for Hernandez, according to the CDCR.

He was last seen wearing an orange jumpsuit with white thermals and is described as 5 feet, 5 inches tall and about 161 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes, according to the Department of Corrections.

Hernandez is considered dangerous and police are asking anyone with information about him to come forward contact local law enforcement call 9-1-1 immediately or contact Incident Commander Lt. Anthony Sotello at (661) 721-6300 extension 5506.

Since 1977, 99% of all offenders who have left an adult institution, camp, or community program without permission have been apprehended.
