Israeli forces have killed 59 Palestinians throughout Gaza, of whom at least 17 tried to get food in aid sites led by the controversial United States and the GAZA Humanitarian Fund (GHF) supported by Israel, according to the Ministry of Health, the latest deaths in areas that critics have reduced.
Medics at Al-AWDA Hospital in Central Gaza on Sunday, Al Jazeera said at least three people were killed and dozens of Israeli fire when they tried to approach the GHF site near the so-called netzarim corridor, desperately searching for tiny food packages for their hungry families.
At least 10 other help seekers were reported to have been killed in southern Gaza and more than 50 injured. Many of the dead and wounded were taken to the Red Cross Hospital in Rafah, Medica reports.
“People have told us that Israeli military personnel warned hungry crowds before the fire was opened, causing devastating civilians,” said Al Jazeera Tareq Abu Azzoum from Deir El-Balah Gaza in the center.
Ahmed Al-Masri, who left one of the help points empty-handed, described the shooting as a “trap”.
Several Israeli air raids also threw the southern part of Gaza on Sunday, killing at least 12 Palestinians there. Seven others were killed when the Israeli strike focused on a group of people in Beit Lahiya, located north of an anklava, said the medical profession.
Israeli strike Nuseirat killed at least eight people in a refugee camp in Gaza. Palestinian agency Wafa reported that the attack on the residential building also injured several people.
A disturbing hunger level and hunger spectrum have pushed people to a few food distribution points in Gaza, despite the heavy dangers involved. But Israeli forces have reacted with sniper fire and explosions. Hundreds of Palestinians have been killed for almost a day’s mass shooting and the GHF is accused of weapons.
At least 79 Palestinians were killed on Saturday, many of them seeking help. Medics at Al-AWDA and Al-Aqsa Hospitals in Central Gaza said at least 15 people were killed in an attempt to approach GHF’s help distribution site near Netzarim Corridor.
There have been no comments on the comments of Israeli military personnel on Sunday’s attacks.
“Execution sites”
The GHF began to distribute help in Gaza in late May after Israel partially lifted three months of blocking food, medicines and other essential items for three months.
Abu Azzoum said the Palestinians are starting to consider GHF distribution centers as “places of execution”, taking into account repeated attacks there.
The GHF said its aids were closed on Saturday. But witnesses said that thousands of people had still gathered near places, desperately for food, as the Israeli penalty blockade and the military campaign have directed the area to the border of hunger.
Earlier this month, the AID distribution center operations were temporarily suspended after a number of deadly violence in which Israeli forces revealed fire to Palestinian aid seekers.
Gaza’s Ministry of Health said on Saturday in a statement that so far at least 274 people have been killed and more than 2,000 injured, near the help distribution sites since GHF started surgery in Gaza.
Israeli military personnel have acknowledged shooting for AID seekers, but said it only reveals the fire when the “suspects” resigned from a certain road to the GHF distribution site.
Hamas has accused Israel of “the use of hunger as a war weapon and converting help to the traps of innocent civilians’ mass deaths.”
Israel and the US claim that the new system is intended to replace the network led by the United Nations. They have accused Hamas without providing evidence of being deleted and not offering assistance and selling it to finance its military activities.
Israel has also recognized the support of armed gangs in Gaza, known for its criminal activities to undermine Hamas. These groups are blamed for aid.
UN officials deny that Hamas has channeled a significant amount of assistance and claims that the new system is unable to meet growing needs and also bypass these organizations with decades of experience distributing aid throughout the area.
The UN has also denoted the distribution of GHF assistance as an insufficient violation of, dangerous and humanitarian principles.
“In my opinion, it is fair to say that there has been a failure from a principled humanitarian point of view,” said Jen Laerke, a UN office spokesman in Geneva on Friday in Geneva, a UN office spokesman for Humanitarian Coordination (OCHA). “They do not do what a humanitarian operation should do, providing assistance to people where they are in a safe way.”
The Israeli war against Gaza has killed nearly 55,300 Palestinians, most of them civilians, and has flattened a large part of the densely populated Gaza Strip, which has more than two million people, most of whom are moved and faced with acute hunger.
