Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government survived an attempt to end Parliament on early Thursday morning, most of his particularly orthodox coalition partners joined him by voting against a bill that would have forced them to register for the military service while the country is in conflict with Hamas.
The vote was the most serious challenge for the Netanyahu government since October 7, 2023, the attack, the biggest security failure in Israel’s history and the causative agent of the conflict in Gaza. The failure of the bill means that no other bill dissolving can be submitted for at least six months by mutilating the coalition of Netanyahu prisoners.
Ultra-orthodox parties are angry that the government has not adopted a law that releases their community from the mandatory military service. This issue has long been divided into Jewish Israeli society, especially during the 20 -month conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli opposition hoped that public anger at exceptions would help to take over the government. But only two of the 18 Ultra orthodox members of the Kneshet, the Israeli Parliament, supported the draft law on dissolving.
Most Haredi Cabinet agreed to vote against the bill after Yuli Edelstein, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, said he and the Ultra-orthodox parties have reached their understanding on the basis of a new law they will continue to discuss next week.
Military service is mandatory for most Jewish Israel, but the politically powerful ultra-orthodox, which accounts for about 13 percent of Israeli societies, has traditionally received exceptions when they study full-time religious seminars.
Ultra-orthodox, also known as Hared, or “God’s fear” in Hebrew, says that integration into the army threatens their traditional lifestyle. Each year, about 13,000 particularly orthodox men reach the age of 18, but less than 10 percent are attracted, according to the Parliamentary State Audit Office Committee, which included a hearing that examined the issue.
Israel deals with the longest active conflict in the history of the country, which has stretched out its military force to the point of fracture. Haredim’s widespread refusal to serve and threaten to war on the government during the war has been outraged by many Israelis, especially those who have served a number of reserve responsibilities.
