New York police released surveillance photos Thursday of a person wanted for questioning in the deadly shooting UnitedHealthcare executive director Brian Thompson.

Both photos show most of the face of the person the NYPD is seeking in connection with Wednesday’s homicide investigation in midtown Manhattan. The images were captured by cameras at a hostel on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.

Thompson, 50, was killed early Wednesday morning by a masked assailant as he walked to the entrance of the Hilton Hotel for an investor meeting. UnitedHealth GroupParent company of UnitedHealthcare.

UnitedHealthcare is the largest private payer of health insurance benefits in the United States.

“The New York City Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the individual depicted in the newly attached media release wanted for questioning in connection with the following murder,” the NYPD’s media affairs office said in a statement.

Investigators were at the HI New York City hostel on Thursday.

“We are cooperating fully with the NYPD, and because this is an active investigation, we are unable to comment at this time,” a spokeswoman for Hostelling International USA, which operates the hostel, told NBC News.

Police on Wednesday released video of Thompson’s killing and photos showing a masked gunman shooting the executive. The shooter, who was wearing a backpack, fled the scene and got on a bicycle, which he rode into nearby Central Park.

The NYPD had also released surveillance photos from a nearby Starbucks on Wednesday showing the suspected shooter, who was wearing a mask at the time.

The NYPD and Crime Stoppers have posted a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for Thompson’s killing.

The shooter was reportedly involved in the killing of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson in midtown Manhattan on December 4, 2024.
