KAL JAFAI says that his brother Galal’s future opponents must possess power if they are to contain him.
Galal, 9-0 (7 KOs), achieved the breakthrough of his career by stopping former IBF flyweight champion Sunny Edwards, 21-2 (4 KOs), in six rounds. The writing was on the wall from the start as the undefeated competitor flew out of the traps, ensuring Edwards couldn’t get into any sort of rhythm.
However, at the end of the second round, Edwards admitted to his coach Chris Williams, “I don’t want to be here. The 28-year-old dug deep and battled, but he didn’t have enough in his arsenal to stop Jafai from doing what he does best.
“To keep Galal down, you have to be able to bang,” Cal said Boxing News after.
“With Galala, if you can’t punch, he’ll choke you, and I don’t think Sunny can. He knows what Galal is capable of.”
Cal, a former WBA flyweight champion, predicted the fight would go to the eighth round before his brother triumphed.
“He’s just an animal,” he told Galal. “He’s just a little beast and it went exactly as we thought.”
