GLP-1 side effects may vary, but one lesser-known reported the outcome of popular weight loss medication is hair loss or thinning.
Some hairdressers have confirmed the increase in customers who complain about losing their hair when going for weight loss trips.
This includes Ashley Dimatteo, owner of Ashley Lauren’s beauty lounge in Westchester, New York, and Briana Delvecchio, a color specialist and hairdresser in the Dimatto cabin. Both talked to Fox News Digital in an interview on the camera (See the video at the top of the article).

“The number of customers with hair loss has certainly increased,” Dimatteo said, noting that it ranges from gradual to quickly and from thinning to complete loss of hair.
Delvecchio agreed that she had “some” customers reporting thinner and drier hair, which she said could be related to weight loss drugs.

The hairdresser who is taking GLP-1 hassage said that there may be some reasons for changing hair-including new drugs, vitamin deficiencies and weight loss that can cause stress to the body.
Becky Vata, Ohio Hairstyle with over 20 years of experience, said she had also noticed clients to lose her hair when using drugs for weight loss.
“I have seen thinning and discard, and when washing it, it is very easy to come out.”
“I have seen thinning and discarding, and when washing, it is very easy to come out a lot of hair,” she told Fox News Digital. “I haven’t noticed any naked spots.”
However, she has had some clients who take medication without hair loss, Wats added.
In a separate interview with New York endocrinologist Dr. Philip Rabito explained that this reaction, called telogen effect, is a stress reaction to weight loss that affects the hair follicle.

He noted that the reaction is only temporary – the hair falls out and then the weight loss will stabilize in a few months.
“It’s a reaction to severe physical stress – and weight loss is considered hunger,” Rabito said. “Weight loss rate correlates with the amount of hair loss.”

Before weight loss drugs, traditional bariatric surgery would result in a loss of 70% of the excess body weight for about six months, Rabito shared-which was often followed by hair loss within six to nine months.
“Your body doesn’t realize it’s a healthy weight loss – your body thinks it’s starving,” he repeated. “This happens with almost everyone, with some people more than others.”
This daily beauty routine could ruin your hair, experts warn
Those who lose weight are at greater risk of hair loss, said Rabito, as well as those with a thyroid problem or micronutrient deficiency – usually iron, B12 or vitamin D.
These vitamin deficiencies can get worse when weight loss occurs, so it is important to work with a medical professional to balance this level, the doctor said.
“It seems that my customers who say they have no appetite are the ones who lose the most hair,” one hairdresser observed. (Istock)
“From what I have learned when talking to these particular customers, it seems that customers who are still eating are not hair loss,” Wats observed.
“It seems that my customers who say they have no appetite are the ones who lose the most hair,” she continued. “I believe this is probably due to the lack of nutrients and proteins, though I’m not a doctor.”
Dimatteo and Delvecchio agreed that they “always” advise their clients to see a vitamin level test.
“And we will then narrow their hair routine,” Dimatteo said. “Basically, there are more more hair loss.”

“Before arriving at us, register for your weight loss doctor or endocrinologist to exclude iron, vitamin D, or anything else you miss it is to turn it off before we can help you,” said Delvecchio.
“Then we’ll tell you that we need to work on your scalp health; we’ll give you a shampoo and conditioner that is probably a little softer for your hair.”
