US tourists seem to fall on summer trips to Europe, but Chinese travelers are more than compensated, an open study.
Data As of Tuesday, the European Travel Commission (etc.) showed that only 33% of US survey respondents are planning to visit Europe this summer, which is about 7% lower than last year’s level.
The fall seems to be largely concerned with funding, with 54% of those surveyed mentioning high road costs as a barrier.
But it also seems to be political concerns, including those around the US abroad, weighing on plans, said, etc.
“The mood of the trip is the most powerful among the Americans from the northeast (43% versus 33% of the total sample), a region that usually sounds democratically and politically different from Trump,” the organization noted.
Popular European tourist destinations usually welcome millions of visitors from the United States every year. US tourists in the UK, for example, in 2023 total record 5.1 million while US visitors were among the top five countries French Economics last year.
The decline in interest on the European summer is not limited to US travelers. About 39% of all respondents said to the ETC survey that they were planning such a holiday in 2025, compared with 41% in 2024. The sentiment around European travel has also returned to travelers from Brazil, Canada and Japan.
But interest in European summer trips among Chinese travelers, and 72% of respondents surveyed from the state said they were planning such a holiday – 10% compared to the previous year.
“The strong mood is supported by growing disposable income, favorable travel policy and consumer transition to personal fulfillment and lifestyle priorities, such as tourism,” said, etc.
Earlier this year, the National Bureau of Statistics of China said that the national disposable income increased by more than 5% in the first quarter of 2025 in the previous year. Inland concerns, however, increased the resilience of the Chinese consumer: weak consumer demand prices have recently lowered, while the increase in retail retail retail sales slowed down in April.
Europe has long been the main Chinese tourist destination, and many want to buy luxury goods away. This trend was stopped during the Covid-19 pandemic, but it could come back now.
More than half of Chinese travelers now say that shopping is part of their European travel plans, according to ETC data. However, the numbers also indicate that travelers may change their spending models, and Chinese tourists are now particularly similar to tighten the belt. Only 29% of them expect more than 200 euros ($ 229) to spend a 44% drop per day compared to last year. Instead, most Chinese visitors now want to spend between 100 and 200 euros a day.
